ID & Age Requirements
What ID do I need to bring?
For adults (18+): a valid driver’s license, state ID, or passport. If you have a temporary paper ID, we can accept it alongside your expired, hole-punched ID — but we cannot accept expired documentation on its own.
For minors (ages 8+): we need valid ID for both the parent or guardian and the minor.
- Parent or guardian: valid state ID, driver’s license, or passport.
- Minor: valid birth certificate, state ID, driver’s license, or passport. School IDs are not accepted.
- If last names or addresses on IDs do not match, a birth certificate is required in addition.
- All documents must be original — no copies or digital versions. Court documents verifying guardianship, signed by a judge, are also accepted when other documentation does not match.
The parent or guardian must be present for the full appointment and provide written consent via our waiver.
What are your minimum age requirements?
Here is the breakdown by piercing type:
- Earlobes: 8+
- Helix or flat: 13+
- Nostril, septum, navel, conch, tragus, daith, rook, eyebrow, lip: 15+
- Bridge, nipples, high nostrils, tongue, and anything not listed: 18+
Not sure where a specific piercing falls? Reach out before booking and we will point you in the right direction. If the piercing you book for does not align with our age requirements and there is no alternative you are interested in at the time of your appointment, it will be treated as a cancellation and the cancellation fee will apply.
Who can give consent for a minor?
We require a biological parent with valid ID, or a legal guardian with valid ID and documentation confirming legal custody.
To be clear: a friend who is 18 cannot sign. You cannot legally sign for yourself if you are under 18. A cousin, aunt, uncle, grandparent, partner, or sibling cannot sign either. This is about protecting your child, and we take that seriously.

What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept cash, debit, credit, and tap-to-pay. We do not accept Venmo or Cash App.
Should I tip, and how much?
Tipping is never required, but it is always appreciated. For piercing services, 20% is a good baseline — same as you would for any skilled service.
What is your return or exchange policy?
Due to the nature of piercing, we are not able to offer returns or exchanges on jewelry once it has been purchased for a piercing appointment.
Booking & Appointments
How do I book an appointment?
You can view availability and book directly through our online booking system. If you have questions before booking, feel free to call or text us at (815) STA-CKED.
Do you take walk-ins?
We do, on a first-come, first-served basis and subject to availability. If you want to check before heading in, give us a call or text at 815-782-2533.
What is your cancellation policy?
Cancellations: If you cancel within 24 hours of your appointment, your deposit is retained as the cancellation fee. Cancel before the 24-hour window, and your piercing fee is refunded in full.
Rescheduling: You can reschedule at no charge as long as it is more than 24 hours before your appointment. A reschedule link will be in your confirmation email.
Late arrivals and missing documentation: Arriving more than 5 minutes late or not having required documentation will be treated as a cancellation and your deposit will be retained. If you are running behind, call us at 815-782-2533 — if availability allows, we will do our best to fit you in later that day.
Can you change out my jewelry?
Yes — we are happy to help with changeouts on Grayling Jewelry or Stacked pieces. You can book a changeout appointment, or we can accommodate it subject to availability if you come in without one. We do not do changeouts for jewelry purchased elsewhere.
For downsizes, the fee is $35 and includes one shorter bar. If additional jewelry is needed, we will let you know — we always aim to keep things as straightforward and economical as possible.
Why is there a fee for a jewelry changeout?
Changeouts require the same level of sterilization as an initial piercing, per APP standards. It is a separate service with its own setup and hygiene requirements, so it does carry its own fee. We want every changeout to be as safe as the original piercing.
What happens if I am late?
Arriving more than 5 minutes late will be treated as a cancellation and your deposit will be retained. If you know you are running behind, call us ahead of time at 815-782-2533, and we will do our best to find a solution based on that day’s availability.
Process & Jewelry
What kind of jewelry do you pierce with?
We use internally threaded and threadless jewelry, depending on the placement. We do not use externally threaded or butterfly-back jewelry — both are unsafe and cannot be properly sanitized.
All initial jewelry is either uncoated ASTM F136 implant-grade titanium or solid 14k gold. We keep mill certifications on file for our own jewelry line and all vendors.
What is threadless jewelry?
Threadless jewelry uses tension rather than threading to hold the post and decorative top together — no screwing required. When you downsize the post, you keep your original top; you only need a new one if you want a different look.
What piercings do you offer?
We perform most standard piercings. See all available piercings here. There are a handful we will not do under any circumstances, due to high rejection rates or health risks:
- Snake eyes or frog eyes (tongue)
- Surface eyebrow
- Surface tragus
- Standard industrial (with a bar)
- Smiley (upper lip frenulum)
- Web (lingual frenulum)
- Frowny (lower lip frenulum)
- Dahlia/Cheek
There are also two placements we are not currently offering but may consider in the future: dermal implants and genital piercings. If either of those is something you are interested in, let us know.
Can I bring my own jewelry to be pierced with?
We only pierce with jewelry purchased from Stacked at the time of your appointment. This ensures the material, quality, and fit are appropriate for a fresh piercing and that the jewelry has not been previously worn or damaged.
What gauges do you pierce at?
Here is the standard gauge by placement:
- Earlobes: 18g (16g available on request)
- Cartilage: 16g
- Nostril: 18g
- Lip: 16g
- Septum: 16g
- Eyebrow: 16g
- Navel, nipples, bridge, tongue: 14g
How many piercings can I get in one appointment?
We offer up to 4 piercings per session. The right number for you depends on placement, anatomy, any currently healing piercings, and overall health. We will talk through this with you at your appointment.
Do you use a needle or a piercing gun?
Always a needle. Hollow piercing needles are significantly safer than guns — they reduce the risk of infection, migration, unnecessary trauma, and rejection. Piercing guns cannot be properly sterilized and cause more tissue damage than people realize.
Do I really need to downsize?
In a work, yes. Downsizing is an important part of healing. Initial jewelry is sized to accommodate swelling, and once that resolves, excess length creates movement that increases the risk of snagging, migration, and rejection. Everyone heals differently, so timing varies — we will guide you through it at your check-up rather than giving you a fixed date.
Studio Etiquette
Can I take photos or videos?
Photos and video are not permitted during the piercing process. This protects the focus, hygiene, and privacy of the piercing environment for everyone.
Before and after your procedure, check in with your piercer — they will let you know what works for the space and the moment.
Can I bring someone with me?
Absolutely. We can accommodate one guest in the piercing room at a time, so feel free to bring someone along for support.
What if I have had a drink or two?
Please come to your appointment sober. Someone who is under the influence cannot provide informed consent and will not be pierced. Arriving intoxicated will be treated as a cancellation and the cancellation fee will apply.
Accessibility
Is the studio accessible?
Yes. Stacked Piercing is ADA compliant. Our suite is on the second floor, accessible via a stairwell with rails or an elevator. Entrances are 41” wide and can accommodate most mobility devices. Bathrooms with grab bars are available.
If you need additional accommodations, please call or text us at 815-STA-CKED ahead of your appointment and we will make sure everything is ready for you.
Can I bring my pet?
We love animals, but Oregon state law (OAR 331-900-0115) only permits trained service animals recognized by the ADA inside a piercing facility. Comfort, therapy, and emotional support animals are not considered trained service animals under the ADA, so unfortunately, we are not able to accommodate them. We hope your pet forgives you.
Can I bring my kids?
For children under 8 who are not receiving a piercing, we ask that they be accompanied by an additional adult and are not brought into the piercing rooms. This keeps the space calm and focused for everyone.
What is your masking policy?
We ask any team member who is unwell to stay home. Once recovered, we ask that they mask for 7 days following illness. We do not currently have a masking requirement for clients, but if you would like your piercer to wear a mask for your appointment — for any reason — just let us know in advance and we will make it happen.
No Dumb Questions
Can I get pierced if I play sports?
We recommend timing your piercing for the off-season if you can. Many teams do not allow jewelry during play, and any contact with a fresh piercing — even indirect — can delay healing or cause complications. A loosely placed bandage offers minimal protection and is not something we recommend as a substitute for proper healing time.
Can I go swimming with a new piercing?
Please avoid submerging a fresh piercing in any water — pools, lakes, rivers, ponds, the ocean, or baths. Standing water of any kind carries bacteria and pathogens that a healing piercing should not be exposed to. Showers are fine since the water is treated and not standing.
Can I get pierced while pregnant or breastfeeding?
Pregnancy and breastfeeding change the way your body prioritizes healing. While there is no Oregon law prohibiting piercing during pregnancy, we recommend waiting until your body is no longer focused on growing or sustaining a new life. We want your piercing to heal well, and that is a harder process to support when your body has other priorities.
