Tragus Piercing

A tragus piercing may be small, but it changes the feel of the ear in a very specific way. Placement matters. Jewelry matters. And because it sits in a compact area of cartilage near the opening of the ear, fit matters just as much.

At Stacked, we take a thoughtful approach to tragus piercing. We look at your anatomy, your existing piercings, and how the jewelry will sit in that part of the ear before anything is placed. The goal is not just to make it look good on day one. It is to make sure it feels balanced, heals well, and wears comfortably long-term.

Why Stacked Piercing?

Why get a tragus piercing at Stacked?

Because cartilage piercing should feel considered.

We don’t rush. We look at your anatomy, help you choose jewelry that is hypoallergenic and designed for healing, and place everything with long-term comfort in mind. No piercing guns. No intimidating energy. Just thoughtful placement, curated jewelry, and guidance that continues after the appointment. That approach is core to The Stacked Method™.

Why Thoughtful Tragus Piercing Matters

A tragus piercing can do a lot with very little. It can add structure near the center of the ear, balance surrounding piercings, or stand on its own as a more minimal detail. But because the area is compact, small placement decisions make a big difference.

That’s the point of Stacked. We design piercing for how it lives on your body, not just how it looks on day one. With tragus piercing especially, anatomy, fit, and jewelry all need to work together.

Cost + Age Requirements

Tragus Piercing Fee: $70

Age Requirement: 15+

Appointment Length: 30 Minutes

Upon booking your appointment, the piercing fee is due in full.

The piercing fee does not include the cost of jewelry.

We have options across a range, from just getting started to more elevated pieces. You can browse a few options in our Lookbook.

We typically pierce with 16g jewelry. Initial jewelry is an ASTM F136 implant-grade titanium flat back post with a threadless top. Post length is selected based on your tissue and anatomy, because the fit needs to leave room for swelling without adding unnecessary movement.

Hoops can be worn later, once the cartilage is fully healed. For most people, that is typically around 12+ months.

Tragus Piercing Process

Tragus piercing process

Your piercer will clean and mark your tragus piercing first. It is typically placed in the center of the cartilage in front of the ear canal, but the final placement can be anatomy-specific.

Once placement is approved, the piercing is done with a needle, and jewelry is guided into place. No piercing guns. No rushed decisions. Just precise placement and a calm, supportive experience from start to finish.

Pain Level 4–6/10

Pain is personal, so this can vary. For most people, a tragus piercing feels more noticeable than a lobe piercing because of the denser cartilage in that area.

Tragus Piercing Healing Timeline

Healing Time: 6-12+ months

A tragus piercing heals slowly because it sits in cartilage. Even when it looks calmer from the outside, the tissue may still be healing underneath, which is why patience and good follow-through matter.

Downsizing

This is one of the most important parts of healing well. A post that is too long for too long can shift, catch, and create unnecessary irritation.

Your initial jewelry is selected to allow room for swelling, but that does not mean it should stay that way for the full healing period.

For a tragus piercing, the initial downsize is often considered around 6 weeks, depending on swelling, jewelry style, and how your body is healing. Some people need more time. Others are ready right on schedule.

Downsizing is assessed at your four-to-six week check-up. If the healing is on track, we will make the switch then. Timing depends on how your body is responding, not a fixed calendar date — we guide that decision with you.
