Septum Piercing Information
Pain Level 3–6/10
Pain is personal, so this can vary. For most people, septum piercing is quick, but the sensation depends a lot on anatomy and placement.
Septum Piercing Healing Timeline
Healing Time: 3–4+ months
Healing depends on your body, your jewelry, and how consistently you follow aftercare. Even if it starts feeling better quickly, piercings can seem healed on the outside before the inside is fully settled.
Downsizing
This matters, but not always in the same way it does for a piercing with a flat back post.
With a septum piercing, “downsizing” is usually less about shortening a post and more about refining the fit once swelling has settled and healing is on track. Some people are happy with their initial jewelry the whole way through. Others may want a snugger diameter or a different style later on for comfort, balance, or the look they had in mind.
Because septum piercing is so anatomy-specific, the right timing depends on your swelling, your jewelry, and how your body is healing. We’ll check the fit with you and guide any jewelry changes carefully rather than rushing them.
A piercing starts in the studio, but the healing process is each client's responsibility and can’t happen here. At Stacked, we require our clients to come back in for a six-week checkup. This way, we can help troubleshoot any concerns you may have, take a peek at the healing piercing, and give advice as needed.
