Septum Piercing

A septum piercing can feel simple, but it is one of the most anatomy-specific piercings we do. Placement matters. Jewelry matters. And whether your anatomy supports a septum piercing at all matters just as much.

At Stacked, we take a thoughtful approach to septum piercing. We assess your anatomy first, talk through your jewelry options, and place everything with comfort, healing, and long-term wear in mind. If your anatomy is not a fit, we will tell you honestly. If it is, we will design the piercing so it feels balanced, wearable, and right for your face from the start.

Why Stacked Piercing?

Why get a septum piercing at Stacked?

Because anatomy-specific piercing should feel considered.

We don’t rush. We assess your anatomy, help you choose jewelry that is hypoallergenic and designed for healing, and place everything with long-term comfort in mind. No intimidating energy. Just thoughtful placement, curated jewelry, and guidance that continues after the appointment. That approach is core to The Stacked Method™.

Why Thoughtful Septum Piercing Matters

A septum piercing sits in a prominent spot, so small placement decisions make a big difference. The right placement can make the jewelry feel balanced and natural on your face. The wrong placement can feel off from the start.

That’s the point of Stacked. We design piercing for how it lives on your body, not just how it looks on day one. With septum piercing especially, anatomy, jewelry, and placement all need to work together.

Cost + Age Requirements

Septum Piercing Fee: $70

Age Requirement: 15+

Appointment Length: 30 Minutes

Upon booking your appointment, the piercing fee is due in full.

The piercing fee does not include the cost of jewelry.

We have options across a range, from just getting started to more elevated pieces. You can browse a few options in our Lookbook.

We typically pierce with 16g jewelry. Diameter is often around 3/8" (10mm), though the final fit depends on your tissue and anatomy. Initial jewelry options include an ASTM F136 implant-grade titanium circular barbell, an ASTM F136 implant-grade titanium seamless ring, or a solid 14k gold seamless ring. Rings are appropriate for some placements, and initial jewelry should always be suited to both the placement and your anatomy.

Hinged hoops or clickers can be worn later, once the piercing is fully settled. For most people, that is typically around 6+ months.

Septum Piercing Process

Your piercer will clean and mark your septum piercing first. Because this piercing is highly anatomy-specific, we begin by checking whether your tissue supports it and where placement will sit best.

Once placement is approved, the piercing is done with a needle, and jewelry is guided into place. Some piercers may use a receiving tube or septum forceps depending on the technique. No rushing. Just precise placement and a calm, supportive experience from start to finish.

Pain Level 3–6/10

Pain is personal, so this can vary. For most people, septum piercing is quick, but the sensation depends a lot on anatomy and placement.

Septum Piercing Healing Timeline

Healing Time: 3–4+ months

Healing depends on your body, your jewelry, and how consistently you follow aftercare. Even if it starts feeling better quickly, piercings can seem healed on the outside before the inside is fully settled.

Downsizing

This matters, but not always in the same way it does for a piercing with a flat back post.

With a septum piercing, “downsizing” is usually less about shortening a post and more about refining the fit once swelling has settled and healing is on track. Some people are happy with their initial jewelry the whole way through. Others may want a snugger diameter or a different style later on for comfort, balance, or the look they had in mind.

Because septum piercing is so anatomy-specific, the right timing depends on your swelling, your jewelry, and how your body is healing. We’ll check the fit with you and guide any jewelry changes carefully rather than rushing them.

A piercing starts in the studio, but the healing process is each client's responsibility and can’t happen here. At Stacked, we require our clients to come back in for a six-week checkup. This way, we can help troubleshoot any concerns you may have, take a peek at the healing piercing, and give advice as needed.
