Eyebrow Piercing

An eyebrow piercing looks sharp and considered when it is placed well. Getting it there requires more thought than most people expect.

Unlike cartilage piercings that anchor in a fixed ridge of tissue, an eyebrow piercing is a surface piercing — meaning it sits in a shallow plane of skin rather than passing through a defined structure. That changes everything about how it is placed, what jewelry it takes, and how it heals. Surface piercings are more sensitive to angle, depth, and jewelry fit than almost any other piercing we do. And they are more prone to migration or rejection when any of those variables are off.

At Stacked, we assess your anatomy before anything is marked. The shape of your brow, the thickness of your tissue, and how jewelry will sit against your face all factor into whether a traditional eyebrow placement is viable — and exactly where it should go if it is. If the anatomy does not support it, we will tell you honestly. That conversation is part of the appointment.

Why Stacked Piercing?

Why an eyebrow piercing at Stacked?

Because surface placement done carelessly is the reason eyebrow piercings get a reputation for not lasting.

The margin for error is smaller here than with most piercings. Angle, depth, and jewelry fit all have to work together from the start. We assess all of it before we pierce anything, and we stay with you through the healing process so the result has the best possible chance of lasting. That is what The Stacked Method™ is built around.

What Makes an Eyebrow Piercing Different

Most piercings pass through a defined structure — a fold of cartilage, a lobe, a nostril. An eyebrow piercing passes through a shallow pinch of skin along the orbital ridge of the brow. That means it is sitting closer to the surface, with less tissue holding it in place.

This is what makes eyebrow piercings one of the more anatomy-dependent placements we offer. The angle has to be right. The depth has to be right. And the jewelry has to be sized correctly from the start — too short and it puts pressure on the tissue, too long and it moves more than it should. Both outcomes make rejection more likely over time.

A well-placed eyebrow piercing with the right jewelry can last for years. A poorly placed one often does not. That gap comes down almost entirely to how carefully the placement was designed.

We pierce eyebrows with 16g ASTM F136 implant-grade titanium. Initial jewelry is a curved barbell, with sizing typically falling around 3/8″ (10mm) or 7/16″ (11mm) depending on your tissue depth and anatomy.

The curved barbell is the industry standard for eyebrow piercings because its shape follows the natural contour of the brow ridge, reducing pressure on the tissue during healing. Straight barbells and rings are not appropriate for initial placement — both create angles and contact points that work against the surface tissue rather than with it.

Fit matters as much as material here. Initial jewelry sized correctly for your anatomy gives the piercing the best possible start. We size based on your body, not a default.

Eyebrow Piercing Process

We begin by looking closely at your brow — the shape of the orbital ridge, your tissue depth, and how the area sits at rest and in motion. Facial anatomy is not static, and eyebrow placement has to account for how the area moves, not just how it looks straight on.

Once placement is marked and approved, the piercing is done with a needle. Some piercers work freehand; others use forceps or a cork to stabilize the tissue. The approach depends on your anatomy and what gives the most accurate result. Jewelry is then guided into place carefully. No rushed decisions. Precise placement, calm experience, start to finish.

A Note on Longevity

Eyebrow piercings are surface piercings, which means they carry a higher likelihood of migration or rejection over time than piercings anchored in cartilage or a defined structure. That is not a reason not to get one — it is a reason to get it done carefully.

Thoughtful placement, correct jewelry sizing, and proper aftercare significantly improve long-term outcomes. We will be honest with you about what your anatomy supports and what to realistically expect. A piercing that lasts starts with a placement designed to last.

Eyebrow Piercing Information

Pain Level 3-5/10

Most clients find an eyebrow piercing more manageable than they expected. The area has some nerve sensitivity, but the tissue is relatively shallow and the needle passes through quickly. What tends to linger is mild soreness and some swelling in the first few days, which is normal.

Eyebrow Piercing Healing Timeline

Healing Time: 6–12+ months

Surface piercings like the eyebrow tend to heal on the longer end of the timeline. The tissue is shallow and exposed to more movement and contact than deeper piercings, which means healing can be slower and less linear than expected. Even when the piercing looks settled from the outside, the tissue underneath may still be working.

The most important thing during healing is minimizing unnecessary pressure and movement at the site — avoiding glasses frames that sit directly on the piercing, sleeping positions that press on it, and anything that causes repeated friction. We will walk you through the specifics so you know what to protect and what to watch for.

Downsizing

Downsizing an eyebrow piercing is assessed at your six-week check-up and done if the fit calls for it. Initial jewelry is sized to leave room for swelling, but once that resolves, excess length can create unnecessary movement that the healing tissue does not need.

Because eyebrow piercings are surface placements, we are particularly attentive to how the jewelry is sitting at that appointment — whether it is under tension, shifting, or showing any early signs of migration. If everything looks stable and well-placed, we leave it. If an adjustment would serve the healing, we make it then.

A piercing starts in the studio, but the healing process is each client's responsibility and can’t happen here. At Stacked, we require our clients to come back in for a six-week checkup. This way, we can help troubleshoot any concerns you may have, take a peek at the healing piercing, and give advice as needed.
