Kids Ear Piercing Information
Pain Level 1-3/10
Lobe piercing is among the most manageable piercings in terms of sensation — the lobe is soft tissue with minimal cartilage. Most children describe a brief pinch followed by some warmth and tenderness in the area. Individual experience varies, and nerves play a real role in how anything feels. We talk the child through it before and during so nothing catches them off guard.
Kids Ear Piercing Healing Timeline
12–15+ weeks (3–4+ months)
Lobe piercings heal relatively quickly, but there are a few important things to plan around. Jewelry cannot be removed during the initial healing period — even for a short time — without risking the hole closing. This is worth considering in relation to school sports, PE requirements, and summer activities. Submerging a new piercing in water — pools, lakes, the ocean — is not recommended for at least the first three months.
We will go through all of this at the appointment so parents and kids both leave with a clear picture of what aftercare looks like and what to plan around.
Downsizing
The initial downsize can be done at the six-week check-up appointment if healing is progressing well. Depending on how swelling resolves and how the piercing is settling, downsizing may need to happen at a later stage. We assess at the check-up and make the call based on how the piercing is actually healing — not a fixed schedule.
A piercing starts in the studio, but the healing process is each client's responsibility and can’t happen here. At Stacked, we require our clients to come back in for a six-week checkup. This way, we can help troubleshoot any concerns you may have, take a peek at the healing piercing, and give advice as needed.
